He received the MSc (1991) and PhD (1996) degrees in Industrial Engineering from University of Oviedo (Spain). He is currently professor at the Department of Construction and Manufacturing Engineering, in the Manufacturing Engineering area of the same University. His past research were related to sheet-metal cutting and bending processes, processes automation and planning, sheet-metal CAM systems, etc. From the last 10 years his research interests include Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) techniques focused on Dimensional Metrology, Calibration procedures, Reverse Engineering and Quality assurance, mainly with automated inspection instruments like Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and Coordinate Measurement Arms (CMAs). His current research interests are related to different coordinate measurement techniques, both by contact and optical sensors, developing precision artifacts and focusing on its traceability, optimal design, materials, uncertainty budget, etc.
